The 41st EVA International — Ireland’s Biennial of Contemporary Art has announced the details of its next edition, including participating artists and partnerships.
The Biennial, set to take place from 29 August to 26 October 2025, will be held across various locations in Limerick. The title of the upcoming Guest Programme has been revealed as It Takes a Village, and will be curated by Eszter Szakács and the team of EVA.
The theme’s title is derived from the expression “It takes a village to raise a child,” a reminder of the importance of collective effort when undertaking such a task. In the context of the Biennial, this title refers to the necessity of working with artists and partnerships to conceive projects rooted in the socio-political and infrastructural context of the surrounding area in Ireland. The programme encourages diverse voices and perspectives, from the art world and local communities.
Participating artists include Noor Abuarafeh, Reza Afisina, Marwa Arsanios, Ana Bravo Pérez, Ruth Clinton and Niamh Moriarty, Family Connection (Glenda Martinus, Rudsel Martinus, Jörgen Gario, and Quinsy Gario), damdam (a collective of collectives), Ciarán Ó Dochartaigh, Yazan Khalili, Anikó Loránt, Naeem Mohaiemen, Eoghan Ryan, and Eimear Walshe.
EVA International was founded in 1977 by artists, and remains one of the longest-running visual arts organisations in Ireland, dedicated to making Limerick a place of cultural and artistic exchange for both local and international artists, and after 2010, the annual art event moved to a biennial format. Art serves as a connecting thread between diverse entities, including people and organisations, with a number of participating artists proposing alternative, communal frameworks for viewing notions such as property and the wider economy, or finding new ways of viewing historical paths. At the 41st EVA International — Ireland’s Biennial of Contemporary Art, a large number of artistic projects will be the result of shared research and collaboration across various personal, local, and global networks.
