The 25th Biennale of Sydney has announced the first details for the upcoming edition which will take place from 14 March to 14 June 2026.
The Biennale will unfold under the theme Rememory. Artistic Director Hoor Al Qasimi brings a curatorial vision that foregrounds shared and suppressed histories through a global lens.
Drawing inspiration from a concept developed by Nobel Laureate Toni Morrison, Rememory seeks to explore the intersection of memory and history, with a focus on the reconstruction and reclamation of narratives that have been erased or marginalised. The curatorial framework encourages both local and international artists to engage deeply with memory as a means of understanding identity, place and community.
The Biennale will be held across multiple venues in Sydney, including the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Campbelltown Arts Centre, Chau Chak Wing Museum at the University of Sydney, Penrith Regional Gallery and the revitalised White Bay Power Station.
Of the 37 artists and collectives announced to date with15 First Nation artists from around the word commissioned to create new work in collaboration with the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporian. The artists will work alongside Bruce Johnson McLean, theFondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain First Nations Curatorial Fellow, who is of the Wierdi people of the Birri Gubba Nation.

The Biennale will also feature a dedicated program for children and young audiences, encouraging intergenerational storytelling and engagement. Community engagement in Greater Western Sydney will be led by Claudia Chidiac and Paula Abood, appointed as Community Ambassadors for the 2026 edition.
