Louvre Abu Dhabi and Richard Mille have revealed the shortlisted artists for the fifth edition of the annual exhibition and art prize.
This year, six proposals by seven artists were selected from over 400 proposals received. The artists are Ahmed Al-Aqra, Hamra Abbas, Rintaro Fuse, Jumairy, Ryoichi Kurokawa and the architectural duo Takuma Yokomae and Dr Ghali Bouayad (YOKOMAE et BOUAYAD).
Guest curator Sophie Mayuko Arni invited artists to respond to the theme of Shadows, which will explore the dynamics between visibility and concealment, transformation and identity. This year, the prize has also extended to artists based in the GCC, MENA region, those with a GCC connection, as well as Japan.

This year’s jury included His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, founder of UAE Unlimited and a board member of the British Museum and Centre Pompidou; Dr Guilhem André, director of the Scientific, Curatorial, and Collections Management at Louvre Abu Dhabi; Maya Allison, founding executive director of the Art Galleries and chief curator at New York University Abu Dhabi; Yuko Hasegawa, visiting professor at Graduate School of Management at Kyoto University and former Director of 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa and Sophie Mayuko Arni, a curator and founding editor of Global Art Daily.
