The artists for the upcoming 15th Shanghai Biennale, Does the flower hear the bee? has been announced. The biennale will feature over 250 works by 67 artists and collectives from China and around the world and will run from 8 November until 31 March 2026 at The Power Station of Art.
The biennale’s theme takes inspiration from recent scientific insights and interactions between different life forms. Similar to the flower that “hears” the bee’s wings, the biennale mirrors the responsiveness of the natural world, exploring the subtle ways living beings communicate, influence and coexist.
Curated by Kitty Scott, with Xue Tan and Daisy Desrosiers, the biennale draws on insights from artists, writers, scientists and thinkers to create multidimensional exploration of life, communication and relational intelligence. Works across diverse media aim to provide immersive encounters, encouraging audiences to consider human and nonhuman connections, sensorial experiences and collective imagination.
The biennale is set to unfold across multiple indoor and outdoor venues in Shanghai, with further details regarding City Projects, publication and opening events to be announced.
