Korkut Sonic Arts Triennale has announced details for the upcoming second edition held at the Tselinny Center of Contemporary Culture due to take place from 7 May until 28 June.
Curated by Änuar Düisenbinov, Madina Sadybekova and Sattar Stas Shärifulla, the Triennale brings together an international roster of artists engaging with sound and listening beyond disciplinary and institutional limits. The event will be accompanied by a thematic film program, roundtables, artist talks, lectures and special collaborations to be announced later.
Entitled Rites of Eternal Wind, the Triennale will explore the relationship between sound and wind through various perspectives, ranging from breath and spoken words to traditional instruments, a force beyond human control, or a metaphor that shapes movement and memories. The theme highlights the aural nature of many cultures, where sound conveys knowledge across generations.
Alima Kairat, Tselinny’s Artistic Director shares: “Tselinny is a space where contemporary culture in Central Asia can be produced, not just presented. It is a site of experimentation, where artistic practices are not only shown, but developed through dialogue, research, and collaboration across disciplines and communities. Through projects like the Korkut Triennale, this approach becomes especially visible: it is not simply an exhibition, but a living environment for listening – to histories, to bodies, to landscapes, and to each other. It creates conditions where sound becomes a way of sensing, remembering, and imagining collectively.”
