White Cube is pleased to present Alia Ahmad’s (b. 1996, Saudi Arabia) first solo exhibition in Hong Kong, debuting new paintings made in her studio in Riyadh over the past year.
Ahmad’s colourful, expressionistic works draw inspiration from memories and observations of her home city, informed by local textiles, poetry, calligraphy, digital graphics, plant life and the rich diversity of the industrialised desert landscape.
Executed in thickly applied oil paint, the works in the exhibition continue the artist’s engagement with her surrounding environment, in particular the vibrant desert flowers that thrive in Riyadh’s arid climate, as well as her recent exploration into the history of landscape painting.
White Cube announced global representation of Ahmad in September 2024. In Time, A Bloom/ مع الوقت، تزهر marks the artist’s third solo exhibition with the gallery, following presentations in Paris and at Mason’s Yard, London, in March 2024 and February 2025 respectively.
Ahmad’s work has featured in exhibitions around the world, including most recently ‘AIR’ at Aspen Art Museum, Colorado, in 2025, as well as ‘ALCHEMISTS’ at Pond Society, Shanghai and Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale, Saudi Arabia, both in 2024.
