Details

Red Wind, Coral Worlds – part of the Red Sea Curatorial Open Call, awarded to Huda Tayob and Miriam Hillawi – opens from May 20, 2026 through October 26, 2026, situates the Red Sea within expanded oceanic terrain shaped by centuries of movement, migration and exchange. The exhibition traces the entangled worlds that converge across its waters, attending to the material and affective remnants carried through trade, pilgrimage and displacement. Bringing together artworks, archival materials and sensory installations, the exhibition foregrounds coral geographies and coastal networks linking Jeddah to East Africa, the Arabian Peninsula and the wider Indian Ocean. Through scent, texture, sound and material residue, the works operate as alternative navigational systems, mapping histories that are at once ecological, social and ancestral. Across its sections – ranging from coral archives and tidal offerings to windswept currents – the exhibition considers how memory is held, transmitted and reconfigured through both visible and intangible forms.
