Art Basel Qatar has announced the list of participating galleries for its 2027 edition, set to take place from 28 to 30 January 2027 in Doha.
Curated by Artistic Director of Art Basel Qatar 2027 Wassan Al-Khudhairi in collaboration with Vincenzo de Bellis, Chief Artistic Officer and Global Director of Art Basel Fairs, the second edition of the fair in Qatar will take place under the theme of between / بين across M7 and Doha Design District in Msheireb Downtown Doha.
Al-Khudhairi shared: “For me, the theme between / بين is a liminal space of possibility, where different perspectives, histories and ideas meet and new ways of seeing emerge. This thinking has shaped our approach to Art Basel Qatar 2027, from the selection of solo-artist presentations to the galleries participating in the show, bringing together artists across generations and at different stages of their careers.
In a curatorial decision aimed at deepening engagement with artistic practices in the fair setting, this edition will gather 82 galleries from across 37 countries and territories to showcase single-artist presentations in response to the selected theme.
Furthering the fair’s commitment to strengthening its regional standing and engagement with the local art scene, nearly half of the presenting artists and more than a third of the participating galleries will hail from the MENASA region. These include Athr with Mohammad Alfaraj, Green Art Gallery with Seher Shah, Gypsum with Huda Lutfi, Lawrie Shabibi with Yaza Khalili, Tabari with Aya Haidar, Hafez Gallery with Faisal Samra, al markhiya gallery with Youssef Ahmad, Sfeir-Semler Gallery with Aref El Rayess, The Third Line with Vian Sora, Leila Heller with Marcos Grigorian, Le Violon Bleu with Chaïbia Talal and Marfa’ Projects with Stéphanie Saadé, among others.
Of the fair’s 30 first-time participants, galleries from the region include Taymour Grahne Projects with Dalal Al-Obaidi, Efie Gallery with María Magdalena Campos-Pons, Iyad Qanazea with Jumana Abboud, Le LAB Gallery with Moataz Nasr, Alhosh Gallery with Hassan bin Mohammed Al Thani, Contemporary Art Platform with Monira Al Qadiri and Dastan Gallery with Sirak Melkonian.
Art Basel Qatar will be presented in partnership with Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) and QC+, with Visit Qatar as lead partner of the fair. In addition to the fair, Art Basel will launch a year-round programme entitled the Collectors Majlis to strengthen the engagement of collectors and galleries, fostering exchange between the fair’s editions and building links between local and international collectors, galleries and institutions. This includes a series of sessions to be held before the fair, led by Art Basel leadership and key figures in the local and regional art scene, including Her Excellency Sheikha Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums, Abdulrahman Al Khulaifi, founder and director of ARAK, Carly Murphy, Global Head of Collectors and Institutional Relations at Art Basel, Mohammed Rashid Al-Thani, the founding director of The Institute of Arab and Islamic Art, Noah Horowitz, CEO of Art Basel, Tariq Al Jaidah, art collector, Vincenzo de Bellis and Wassan Al-Khudhairi.
On the upcoming edition, Horowitz remarked, “Art Basel Qatar was conceived as an enduring platform for the region, and the 2027 edition marks an important next step in bringing our vision to life. Our ambition extends well beyond the fair week: through our new year-round program, we aim to deepen collector engagement between editions and contribute to the sustained growth of the regional art market. This is aligned with our global mission to nurture the next generation of collectors and create new pathways for discovery and exchange.”
