The curators of the Asian Art Biennial 2024, organised by the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, have been revealed. Led by Fang Yen Hsiang as covener, the team comprises Anne Davidian, Merv Espina, Haeju Kim and Asli Seven.
An independent curator and art critic, Hsiang explores the relationship between contemporary art and social movements in his practice. Armenian-born Davidian was the curator of the Pavilion of Armenia at the Venice Biennale in 2022, while Espina is a curator of the WSK Festival of the Recently Possible, an experimental music and media art festival in the Philippines. The artistic director of the Busan Biennale 2022, Kim currently works at the Singapore Art Museum and is set to curate the Singapore Pavilion at this year’s Venice Biennale. Independent curator, researcher and writer Seven has been a guest curator at several art museums, including the Odunpazari Modern Museum in Turkey and the Arter Museum in Istanbul.
The curators revealed that the upcoming edition of the Asian Art Biennial will delve into the issues of contemporary Asia, including conflict, the displacement of bodies and knowledge, and the relationship between human and non-human worlds.
The Asian Art Biennial 2024 runs from 26 November 2024 to 28 February 2025.
