Jossa by Alserkal

Details

Presented by Dastaangoi Gallery at Jossa by Alserkal, A Gathering of Lovers is a solo presentation of Maryam Lamei‘s rendition of Gol-o-Morgh (The Flower and Bird); an ancient Iranian traditional art form rooted in poetry. The painting of the bird and the flower symbolises the purity of love and the relationship between the lover and the beloved.

This exhibition aims to not only showcase the beauty and complexity of Lamei’s work, but also to invite the viewer to reflect on the profound connections between love, devotion, and the simplicity in nature.

Maryam Lamei was born in 1985 in Sarab, a historical city in northwest Tehran. After achieving her BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Zanjan, she was awarded the National Art Prize from the Ministry of Science Research in Iran.

Lamei is also part of Iran’s Miniaturist Association, Tehran Visual Arts Association and Zanjan Visual Arts Association. She has participated in more than twenty exhibitions in art museums, galleries and cultural centres as well as her individual show in Paris in 2009 and in Istanbul in 2019.
