The Wonder Cabinet presents the first solo exhibition in Palestine by Palestinian-Jordanian artist and designer Mothanna Hussein.
Bringing together selected works from the past ten years, the exhibition surveys a distinctive practice spanning graphic design, digital media, collage, painting, film and sculptural objects, reflecting the artist’s unique explorations of Arabic visual culture. A co-founder of Radio alHara and Turbo Studio (Amman), which he established with Saeed Abu Jaber, Hussein also co-designed Wonder Cabinet’s visual identity.
The exhibition will be inaugurated in Bethlehem on Thursday, 13 August, at 6 pm with a live performance by Jerusalemite artist Abul3ees, and will remain on view until Thursday, 3 September 2026. Designed specifically to inhabit Wonder Cabinet spaces, it includes original artworks alongside a series of limited-edition prints produced especially for the occasion, all available for purchase.
Working between image, language and form, Hussein has developed a distinctive visual vocabulary built on geometry, Arabic letterforms and continuous experimentation across forms, materials and technologies. Refusing the boundaries between graphic design and visual art, his works move freely across media, transforming graphic systems into paintings, moving images, objects and jewelry. At once rigorous and playful, his practice treats design not as a discipline but as an open field for artistic research.
Produced by Wonder Cabinet and made possible with the support of the EU Representative Office in Jerusalem, the exhibition is centred around a suspended conveyor belt – a scenography designed by AAU Anastas and crafted by the artisans of Local Industries – which extends through Wonder Cabinet’s production facility, creating a dialogue between the works and the space.
The occasion also marks the unveiling of Hussein’s commissioned wall painting for the west façade of the Wonder Cabinet building, executed in collaboration with artist Ayed Arafah (Dheisheh RC, Bethlehem): an optical vortex that deconstructs the relationship between the building and the surrounding Karkafeh Valley, shaping the site as an open-ended landmark.
