The Lebanese curator and writer Ibrahim Nehme has been announced as the next director of the Beirut Art Center, one of the region’s leading arts venues. Well known for his activism and dynamic approach to the cultural sector, Nehme has advocated radical approaches to finding new avenues for the creation of sustainable funding and for strengthening the impact of arts institutions such as Beirut Art Center.
As director, Nehme will bring his unique skills as well as sharpened communications expertise to the role. He views the cultural sector as one of the most important vectors through which to enact change, a vision that has seen him as founding editor of The Outpost magazine and co-creator in publishing and new media such as Kiteverse app, Radio Mansion, and a Dance Mag.
Nehme’s strategic vision includes a new management structure focused on fundraising and operational priorities, designed to provide the foundations for a solid financial and managerial institution. He also plans to expand the Center’s programme of creative projects, including collaborations with guest curators and to highlight local and global partnerships through an active outreach initiative.
