VIMA Art Fair is set to debut in Limassol, Cyprus this May marking the country’s first international contemporary art fair.
The fair will take place at The Warehouse by IT Quarter, an old industrial building overlooking the Mediterranean. The event will host up local and international galleries, nonprofit spaces and artist-run projects. VIMA aims to foster collaboration between Cyprus and neighbouring regions, bridging the gap between Cyprus’s growing art scene and the surrounding cultural ecosystems.
The fair’s inaugural edition will include participants from Cyprus and 10 other countries spanning four continents, including:
Window Project (Tbilisi), Alpha C.K. Art Gallery (Nicosia), Art Seen by Maria Stathi (Nicosia), CALLIRRHOË (Athens), Diatopos Art Centre (Nicosia), eins (Limassol), Eleftheria Tseliou Gallery (Athens), Fragment (New York), ΓΚΑΡΑΖ art space (Nicosia), Galerie Tanit (Beirut, Munich), Hot Wheels (Athens, London), Kalfayan Galleries (Athens, Thessaloniki), korai project space (Nicosia), Marfa’ (Beirut), Nika Project Space (Dubai), pop/off/art (Moscow, Baku), Sylvia Kouvali (Piraeus, London), Takeover (Beirut), The Edit Gallery (Limassol), Thousand Julys (Nicosia), Tiwani Contemporary (London, Lagos), The Breeder (Athens), The Office Gallery (Nicosia) and The Third Line (Dubai)
Paris-based curator Ludovic Delalande will oversee the fair’s curatorial project entitled The posterity of the sun, a site-specific exhibition in the venue’s outdoor area. The group show will reflect Delalande’s exploration of Cyprus’s art scene and the unique cultural crossroads the island represents.
In addition to the fair, VIMA will host parallel and public programming featuring exhibitions, performances, talks and more across Limassol and Nicosia.
