The Louvre Abu Dhabi and Swiss watchmaking brand Richard Mille have revealed the details of the Louvre Abu Dhabi Art Here 2024 exhibition, which will take place from September 20 to December 15 2024. This year’s guest curator, Simon Njami, has chosen the theme of ‘Awakenings’ for the artists, who will work with the notion of openness, pulling from their respective art practices to visually represent this concept.
The Art Here 2024 exhibition and the Richard Mille Art Prize competition are renowned and much-awaited events in the region’s art scene, providing a space and platform for regional and local artists to develop their practices and showcase their talent.
For the first time, this event will include participants from North Africa as well as the GCC region, marking a slight shift for this fourth edition of Art Here. H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan and Guilhem André will return to the jury this year, accompanied by Simon Njami, Nujoom Alghanem and Maya Allison.
The expansion to North Africa has gathered a large amount of submissions, with only five artists being shortlisted from a total of 230 submissions. Férielle Doulain-Zouari, Lamya Gargash, Moataz Nasr, Sarah Almehairi, and Nicène Kossentini, from the UAE, Tunisia and Egypt, will have the opportunity to share their unique art practices at Art Here 2024. Working across a wide range of media, the artists will respond to the chosen theme with sculptures or audio-visual installations, which will be exhibited at the Louvre Abu Dhabi.
Previous winners of the Richard Mille Art prize include Nabla Yahya and Rand Abdul Jabbar.
