Curated by artistic director and head curator Sofia Baldi Pighi alongside Elisa Carollo and Emma Mattei, maltabiennale.art 2024 is themed white olive sea groves and will examine the Mediterranean region from an internal point of view, positioning Malta as a site of confluence and exchange between East and West. Drawing from an intimate perspective of Malta’s history and cultural identity, the artworks on display will include a number of site-specific installations. The exhibition will unfold across major heritage sites in Malta, including the palaces of Birgu, the temples of Ħaġar Qim and the citadel in Gozo.
