Returning for its 12th edition, the Manif d’art – The Québec City Biennial will take place from 28 February to 19 April, positioning winter as a central site of contemporary artistic inquiry.
Curated by Didier Morelli, this year’s edition entitled Briser la glace / Splitting Ice, examines climate change, embodiment, resistance and coexistence with the natural environment. Through works engaging snow, ice, water and the body, the biennial looks into how humans navigate a warming planet. The programme brings together over 60 artists from 18 countries including Joyce Joumaa, Elias Nafaa and Ali Yass, among many others.
The biennial will extend across 41 venues throughout Québec City, Lévis and neighbouring regions across galleries, libraries, museums and public spaces.
Beyond exhibitions, the programme will include performances, film screening, workshops, talks and public artworks, many of which are freely accessible. One of the programmes, the Young Curators, an initiative designed to spotlight the next generation of curatorial talent. This year’s, the programme features four curators, Camille, Dounia Bouzidi , Laurence Duchesne and Ally Rosilio who have been mentored by curator Didier Morelli. Together, they bring fresh perspectives to the theme Briser la glace / Splitting Ice, that invite reflection and dialogue.
