Curated by Marie Muracciole, the biennial is themed The Strength of Sleep—The Cohabitations of All the Living and explores the interplay between human sleep and cold weather – both times of rest, regeneration, and respite from and resistance to the demands of capitalism on the body. The exhibitions within the biennial evoke spaces of refuge such as bedrooms, houses and hideaways. Giving pause, the works on display serve as reminders that we are cohabitors rather than owners of our planet.
The 11th Manif d’art – Quebec City Biennial is spread across 40 locations in the city, including 15 galleries, two main exhibition venues and 12 public art sites. The programme features projects by four emerging curators as well as workshops, film screenings and eight artist residencies.
