Art Basel Qatar has announced the list of participating galleries for its inaugural edition, set to take place from 5 to 7 February 2026.
Curated by Wael Shawky, Art Basel Qatar will be presented as an open-format exhibition, setting it apart from the traditional booth format. The fair will be presented in Doha’s M7 and the Doha Design District, with Msheireb Downtown Doha hosting a number of sites open to the public. It will take place under the theme Becoming, conceived as a reflection on the never-ending mutation of human beings, while exploring the various systems we create to construct meaning through our ways of life and belief systems.
With a total of 87 exhibiting artists showcased by 84 participating galleries from 31 countries worldwide, Art Basel Doha will bring together a diverse range of voices, with a particular focus on shedding light on the MENA region’s vibrant art scene. Galleries from the Gulf, the wider Middle East, North Africa and South Asia will be joined by galleries from Europe, the American continent and Asia.
Sixteen galleries will be participating with the fair for the first time, including Hafez Gallery from Jeddah, Gallery Misr from Cairo, Le Violon Bleu from Tunis, Saleh Barakt Gallery from Beirut and Tabari Artspace from Dubai. Over half of the exhibiting artists come from the region, including Ahmed Mater, Hassan Sharif, Maryam Hosseini, Etel Adnan, Ali Banisadr, Simone Fattal, Ali Cherri, Meriem Bennani and Iman Issa.
Noah Horowitz, CEO of Art Basel, said: “With Art Basel Qatar, we are furthering our mission to be a catalyst for cultural exchange and market growth. Our gallery line-up for year one is thrilling – welcoming diverse new voices to our platform and deepening our engagement with new geographies, while also creating opportunities across our network of existing clients and established partners. This new venture is only possible thanks to the long-term commitment of our partners, Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) and QC+, and I’m excited for the impact our collaboration will have over the coming years.”
