Sotheby’s is set to host its first-ever auction in Saudi Arabia on 8 February. The landmark event, titled Origins, will showcase a selection of Modern and Contemporary art, luxury items and rare collectibles, offering collectors an exclusive opportunity to acquire masterpieces from across the globe.
The auction will feature over fifty artists, including renowned international names such as René Magritte, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Wassily Kandinsky and George Condo. Alongside these global icons, Sotheby’s will highlight works by celebrated regional artists such as Mohammad Al Saleem, Abdulhalim Radwi, Ahmed Mater and Louay Kayyali. The auction will also include a focus on pioneering Arab women with works by Monir Farmanfarmaian, Saloua Raouda Choucair, Huguette Caland and Samia Halaby, as well as the first ceramic work by Etel Adnan to ever be offered at auction.
In a nod to the future of art, Origins will also include cutting-edge digital art and outdoor sculptures, with a monumental digital piece by Refik Anadol and an immersive installations light installation by James Turrell.
Ahead of the auction, a public exhibition will be held at Bujairi Terrace in Diriyah from 1 to 8 February. The exhibition will provide an exclusive preview of the auction lots and the chance to experience the artworks in person.
