The 14th edition of the Taipei Biennial 2025 has shared the title for the upcoming edition as Whispers on the Horizon. Opening at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum in November, the exhibition will bring together 54 artists from 35 cities and will feature 33 commissioned works and site-specific installations.
Curated by Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath, Whispers on the Horizon will explore a multifaceted understanding of yearning as a human condition across time and geographies. The exhibition will also delve into Taiwan’s history marked by social and political transformations, taking inspiration from three significant literary and cinematic objects: a puppet from Hou Hsaio-Hsein’s 1993 film The Puppetmaster, a diary from the 1960 short story My Kid Brother Kangxiong by Chen Yingzhen and a bicycle from Wu Ming-Yi’s 2015 novel The Stolen Bicycle. Works from the Biennial will also engage with 20th-century paintings from the Taipei Fine Arts Museum’s collection and draw inspiration from artifacts from the National Palace Museum.
