Riyadh Art and the Royal Commission for Riyadh City have announced the full list of artists for the fifth edition of Noor Riyadh, which runs from 20 November to 6 December.
This year’s edition of the world’s largest light art festival will see 59 artists from 24 countries taking part, led by an international curatorial team which includes Mami Kataoka, Director of the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo and current President of CIMAM; Sara Almutlaq, Riyadh-based curator and visual artist; and Li Zhenhua, a curator and producer recognized for his work across contemporary art, film, and digital media.
This year, artists will respond to the theme of In the Blink of an Eye, with more than 60 artworks and over 35 commissioned works being showcased across the festival’s venues. Noor Riyadh will take place at six key locations, building a bridge between old and new parts of the city, as visitors are invited to reflect on the speed of change in Saudi Arabia through encounters with light. These locations include Qasr Al Hokm District, King Abdulaziz Historical Center, stc Metro Station, KAFD Metro Station, Al Faisaliah Tower and JAX District.
The upcoming edition will include an installation dedicated to the late pioneering Saudi artist Safeya Binzagr, the first woman in Saudi Arabia to hold an exhibition in 1968, and a leading figure in the country’s Modern Art movement.
“Noor Riyadh is defined by its artists: their ideas, their courage, and their vision,” says Nouf Almoneef, Festival Director of Noor Riyadh. “Each work captures the city’s momentum through light, reminding us that creativity is a universal language that connects cultures and inspires dialogue.”
