Zadik Zadikian has been selected to represent Armenia at the 61st Venice Biennale.
The artist will present The Studio, a large-scale evolving installation work which challenges ideas surrounding the ritualised aspect of art production. Over the course of the Biennale, Zadikian and his assistants will make, cast and put together bricks made of plaster, in a range of colourways and sizes, rearranging and moving them as the days unfold.
The exhibition will be co-curated by longtime collaborator of Zadikian’s, renowned art dealer Tony Shafrazi, and by Tina Chakarian, a longtime champion of the Armenian cultural sector both in the country and abroad. Staged in the Armenia Pavilion at the Arsenale Militare in Venice, the presentation invites visitors to participate in and witness the material unfolding of artmaking, while questioning the often secretive nature of the artistic process by bringing it into full view of the public.
