Art Basel has revealed the initial details of its upcoming 2025 edition in Hong Kong, including the exhibitors list and highlights.
The fair will take place from 28 to 30 March 2025 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) with a total of 242 galleries from 42 countries and territories. For the next edition, 23 new galleries from India, Australia, Kosovo, Guatemala, Nigeria, South Africa, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and the Greater China will join the event in an effort to bring a wider range of international perspectives to the fair.
Additionally, the inaugural edition of the MGM Discoveries Art Prize will take place in 2025, with the winner being awarded with their representing gallery and a subsequent exhibition in Macau. Artist Ho Tzu Nyen co-commissioned by Art Basel and M+ and presented by UBS, will light up the façade of M+ with Night Charades in a tribute to Hong Kong’s film culture. Para Site will also curate Art Basel’s public Film Programme for the first time, as the fair continues to expand their partnerships with local institutions.
Highlights from the region include the Dubai-based Lawrie Shabibi which will present paintings and sculptures of prominent avant-garde Emirati artist Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim. From North Africa, Selma Feriani Gallery will exhibit the work of Saif Azzuz, Nadia Ayari, Filwa Nazer, and Abderrazak Sahli, all of which are imbedded in North African and Arab cultural narratives and heritage. Hong Kong based Rossi & Rossi gallery will show a selection of the late Siah Armajani’s ceramics and calligraphy works, alongside his affecting and personal musings on the Iranian protests of 2009. Dastan Gallery, with locations in both Tehran and Toronto will focus on showcasing unconventional textile art through the work of Reza Aramesh, Homa Delvaray, Bita Fayyazi, and Farhad Moshiri, while Greene Naftali, from New York, will present the work of Lebanese artist Simone Fattal, among others.
