Sharjah Art Foundation has announced further details for the upcoming 2025 edition of the Biennial, including the final participating artists list and title.
The Sharjah Biennial 16 will take place from 6 February to 15 June 2025 in various locations across the Emirate, including Sharjah City, Al Hamriyah, Al Dhaid, Kalba, and Al Madam.
With work from over a 140 artists, as well as more than 80 new commissions under the title to carry, the Biennial will explore the multitude of ways in which one can carry, ranging from the concrete concept of carrying tangible objects, as well as the immaterial things one carries across time and space. Curators Alia Swastika, Amal Khalaf, Megan Tamati-Quennell, Natasha Ginwala and Zeynep Öz invite us to turn towards each other, inwards and across in troubled times, to open up during a moment of collective change.
‘The constellation of diverse methodologies that the five curators have gathered offers audiences the opportunity to engage in thought-provoking dialogues bridging the local context with global narratives about identity, movement, change and collectivity,’ said Hoor Al Qasimi, President and Director of Sharjah Art Foundation. ‘By centring the act of carrying, Sharjah Biennial 16 offers a space for imagining new collective futures while recognising the weight of shared histories and experiences.’
