The Singapore Art Museum (SAM) has announced the artist lineup for the 2025 edition of the Singapore Biennale (SB2025). SB2025 will run from 31 October 2025 to 29 March 2026.
Over 80 artists have been selected to participate in the upcoming Singapore Biennale, which will be the 8th edition of the art event, taking place in tandem with the 60th birthday of the country.
The artists, both local and international will to respond to the theme pure intention, which acts as a call to see Singapore in a new light, with artists and audiences encouraged to ponder both a collective future and present. Organised by the SAM, commissioned by the National Arts Council and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, the upcoming edition will explore the power of art in transforming the everyday and provide ways in which to see the world anew, with the urban landscape and social context of Singapore as the basis for renewed consideration of individual and societal concerns.
Curated by Duncan Bass, Hsu Fang-Tze, Ong Puay Khim and Selene Yap, with other contributors from across the globe including from the Asian Film Archive, Futura Trōpica Netroots, Hothouse, Hyphen— and The Packet, SB2025 will showcase more than 100 works of art, with over 30 commissions to be unveiled during the event.
The commissioned artworks will be scattered across the island, as the selected artists reinterpret everyday locales through a variety of artistic mediums, with works including s sculptural installation by Emily Floyd titled Living Library, which will acy as both artwork, place of gathering and library, a number of karaoke videos by Eisa Jocson, made with the collaboration of H.O.M.E and Filipino domestic workers residing in Singapore, an installation by Tuan Andrew Nguyen titled Temple, made partially out of defused unexploded ordnance debris, and PRIMAL INSTINCT, a series of works staged in a grass field by Salad Dressing, Tini Aliman, and Elizabeth Gabrielle Lee led by curators Hothouse.
The biennale will unfold across various locations, both indoors and outdoors, inviting audiences to encounter art in unexpected venues across the city. These include Rail Corridor South, Wessex Estate, Tanglin Halt, Civic District, Orchard and SAM at Tanjong Pagar Distripark, among others. The variety of locations is designed to inspire artistic discovery as the biennale becomes a part of the island’s landscape.
